The Southwest Walk-in Campground is located on the east side of the Kohm Yah-mah-nee Visitor Center parking area. When snow is present, approximately November to May, overnight stays are only allowed in self-contained vehicles in the parking lot (walk-in tent sites are closed in winter). Regulations change and the walk-in tent sites are open when the snow melts, approximately June to October.

The Southwest Walk-in Campground is open year-round. The campground operates first-come, first-served. Tent site locations and some policies change with the presence of snow - please see additional information on Southwest Campground webpage.
Southwest campsites are first-come, first-served only. Payment is made through Scan & Pay via recreation.gov's mobile app.
The parking area is 5 spaces in the center of the parking lot for Kohm Yah-mah-nee Visitor Center. The visitor center / parking lot are located in the southwest corner of Lassen Volcanic National Park along the park's main road (Hwy 89), about one mile from the southwest entrance (500 feet from entrance station/fee booth).
The park receives very little precipitation between July and September. Snow can linger on peaks into July and August, although the parking lot is usually snow-free by late-June. The Southwest Parking Area is located at 6,700 feet elevation. Summer/Fall high temperatures range from 65 to 81°F and lows range from 26 to 36°F. Winter/Spring high temperatures range from 50 to 61°F and lows range from 13 to 23°F.
All parking spaces are paved and flat. Sidewalks around parking area and to Kohm Yah-mah-nee Visitor Center are ACA accessible.
Kohm Yah-mah-nee Visitor Center offers free public Wi-Fi inside the building.
Self-contained barbecues and gas stoves are allowed in the paved parking area. Fires and fire pans, including portable gas fire pits, are prohibited

Self-contained vehicles are allowed to camp overnight in parking lot sites. Please use one space per vehicle (or two spaces for longer rigs, but vehicles that extend beyond the width of the parking area and block flow of traffic are not allowed).

All amenities are available at the Kohm Yah-mah-nee Visitor Center; there are no restrooms or water immediately located at the parking spaces. When the visitor center is closed, restrooms and water are still available in a 24-hour vestibule at the front doors.
