
Biking in the campground
The rustic D.H. Day Campground is located in the northern district of the Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore, on the lower peninsula of Michigan. This beautifully wooded campground is one of the most popular in northern Michigan, with easy access to the Dune Climb, the Pierce Stocking Scenic Drive, and museums and the historic village of Glen Haven. and is located only 2 miles from the restaurants and shops of beautiful downtown Glen Arbor.

D.H. Day Campground is open from April 27 through the last Sunday in November each year. Self-registration: April 27 to May 14, no water available: $10 per night. Reservations only (www.recreation.gov): May 15 to October 15, $20 per night. Self-registration: October 16 – last Sunday in November, no water available: $10 per night. Reservations are required from May 15 through October 15. Reservations can be made up to six months in advance of your arrival date, online at www.recreation.gov or by calling 1-877-444-6777. Both the phone bank and the website open at 10 a.m. Although reservable dates often fill months in advance, there are frequent cancellations and date changes that result in openings closer to or on the date of arrival. Make a Reservation →From Empire, MI: Drive north on M-22 for 2 miles to the intersection of M-109, turn left onto M-109, continue for another 5.3 miles (past the Scenic Drive, Dune Climb & entrance to the D.H. Day Group Campground), the entrance to the campground will be on your left. From Glen Arbor, MI: Drive west on M-109 for 1.4 miles, the entrance to the campground will be on your right.
Sleeping Bear Dunes is located in northern lower Michigan. You want to come equipped for any condition that may present itself as lake-borne weather patterns can change quickly. The well-advised visitor dresses in layers, prepared for a variety of conditions. Summer days have highs ranging from upper 70's to 90's with lows typically in the 50's to 70's. Winter days have highs ranging from 20's to 30's and lows in the 10's to 20's. Snow is usually on the ground from late November through March.
The Log Cabin shelter, amphitheater, campground office, and additional campground vault toilets are accessible. A boardwalk with a bench leads to the campground beach.
Fires are permitted only in the designated fire rings, and only as long as there are no burn bans or dangerous fire weather.

D.H. Day Campground has one accessible campsite, on packed soil, with a vault toilet adjacent. Water spigots supply water throughout the campground but are not at each site. An RV dump station is located at the entrance to the campground.
