About

Camping in City of Rocks is a great way to enjoy being out in nature. Relax beneath the cool shade of aspen, juniper, mountain mahogany, or pine. Spend the night surrounded by impressive granite formations and starry skies. There are 64 standard campsites and 3 group sites to choose from with easy access to climbing, hiking trails, and vistas.

Hours

City of Rocks National Reserve is open to camping year-round, though some sites may be covered in snow during the winter or inaccessible by vehicle. Reservations can be made online at www.reserveamerica.com or by calling 888-922-6743. Camping is first-come first-served only October 1 through April 30.

Directions

64 campsites are located over a 6-mile area along City of Rocks Road and Twins Sisters Road.

Weather

Summers are generally dry with temperatures from lows in the 40's to highs in the 80's, but prepare for extremes. Afternoon thunderstorms are common in the summer months. Winter weather includes lows in the upper teens and daytime highs in the low 40's. Snow can accumulate up to 12-16 inches at times in the Almo Valley and over 24 inches in the Reserve. Typically the valley snow melts to within a few inches, but can drift many feet in the higher elevations.

RVs 28 feet or less are permitted in the following sites in City of Rocks Campground: 5, 7, 12, 13, 15, 20, 33, 34, 35, 46, 47, 57, 63, 64. Larger RVs and trailers will find more suitable accommodations at nearby Smoky Mountain Campground. Facilities there include water and electrical hookups, dump station, flush toilets and showers, and designated ADA campsites.
