About

South Fork Campground and its access road were heavily and extensively damaged by floods and landslides from winter storms. The dirt road is currently impassible. The campground is closed until further notice. All sites are first-come, first-served. This small, primitive campground is in a remote area of the foothills on the South Fork of the Kaweah River, away from main park highways and features. There is no potable water. Trailers and RVs are not permitted.

No reservations are available for this campground. All sites are first-come, first-served.

Directions

Take Highway 198 to the town of Three Rivers. Five miles before the main Sequoia park entrance, turn onto South Fork Road and travel east for 12.3 miles. The paved road ends a short distance before you reach South Fork Campground, and a dirt road continues to the campsites, ending at the Ladybug Trailhead. The dirt portion of the road is rough, and cars with low clearance are not recommended.

Weather

This campground is at 3,600 feet (1,100 m). Summers are usually hot and dry, and winters are cool and rainy. Snow is possible in winter.

In summer, fire restrictions are often in effect in this campground due to dry conditions and the potential for accidental human-caused fire. When fire danger is very high, wood and charcoal fires (including campfires in fire rings and wood-burning stoves) may be prohibited. Restrictions change as weather and fire conditions change. Check current fire restrictions online or at park bulletin boards before you camp.

You are required to store food properly in order to protect bears. Each campsite has a large food storage locker (47”W x 33”D x 28”H) that is resistant to bears when properly latched. For more information: https://www.nps.gov/seki/planyourvisit/bears.htm.
